Branch History

Although the Federal Superannuates National Association was founded in 1963, federal pensioners in London and across Canada were not too slow to join in. The London branch received its Charter in 1965 and from that time to this, the Association as a whole has grown steadily. London branch now has close to two thousand members, Ottawa branch nearly thirty thousand. In the past 45 years, London branch has elected or appointed 22 presidents and a nearly innumerable number of branch executive. Although this would average out to one president elected every two years, such is not the case. Among the longest-serving was a four-year term by president Albert Elson (1970 – 1973), and six-year term president Donald Spero (1988 – 1993), while together the husband and wife team of Ken and June Ann Alexander served consecutively from 1999 – 2005, each serving a three-year term for a combined total of six years. Possibly several of our past presidents – Charles G. Hayes (1965 – 1966) for example, had little or no experience when they were elected. So you see – with our branch you can start at the top.
