From time to time the spouse or family of a member who has passed away will contact the branch to ask what documentation is required or what needs to be done. Often this is a time of great stress for the spouse or partner of the deceased when a number of difficult tasks are necessary. The executive is pleased to announce that Roger West has agreed to act as chairperson of this committee. He can be contacted at 519-858-4736. All dealings with the Bereavement Committee are on a strictly confidential basis. In addition, London branch recently produced a condensed version of the FSNA's popular "Survivors Workbook" and released it to the membership as a "Planning Guide For Your Surviving Family." This 10-page booklet is not intended to replaced detailed estate planning. Instead it allows both the member and his/her spouse or partner to group personal information that will be of assistance to the family in the event of death or incapacity following an accident or for any other reason. For example, some of the items suggest listing personal information such as birth and marriage dates, names of doctors or insurance agents, and the location of important documents. It also lists addresses and telephone numbers of whom to notify and what documents would be required. The Planning Guide is free and available from the Bereavement Committee. |
