Our members enjoy health care insurance coverage that compares favourably to the best that is available anywhere. You are encouraged to thoroughly review the health care coverage provided by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) ; and by the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP) , and Pensioners' Dental Service Plan (PDSP). If you have any questions regarding your health care coverage provided by these plans, feel free to contact the Branch at 519-439-3762 on weekdays between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., or you can leave a message and you will be contacted as soon as possible. Currently, negotiations are underway regarding the future coverage provided through the PSHCP. The Government is seeking certain adjustments due to sharply rising costs of the Plan. We will report the results of theses negotiations, and their implications for our members, as soon as they are available. Please note that the McGuinty government has recently introduced the following changes to OHIP: a monthly premium which increases with the size of your annual taxable income, as of July 1, 2004; de-listing of ophthalmology examinations for ages 20-64 as of November 1, 2004 (Note: 65 and over coverage will continue); de-listing of chiropractic services as of November 30, 2004; and de-listing of physiotherapy as of March 31, 2005. The impact of the Ontario de-listings is minimal for those covered by the PSHCP, at least at this point in time. For the time being, the Plan covers 80% of the following: an eye examination by an optometrist every two calendar years commencing every odd year; the purchase of eye glasses/contact lenses up to $200; the services of a registered chiropractor up to $500 each calendar year; and the services of a registered physiotherapist, with a physician's prescription (valid for one year) up to $500 and over $1,000, with no upper limit. |
